Thrivant Builds – Habitat for Humanity

The Birmingham area Lutheran churches are teaming up again for a Thrivent/Habitat build project, and First/Emmanuel has adopted this as one of our outreach ministries. This will be the third consecutive year of our involvement. The first build date is scheduled for April 18th. This project is scheduled to be an eight week build, so the last build date is scheduled for June 6. Most work days are on Saturdays. The build schedule will be posted on the board in the back hallway, as will a profile of the family for whom we are building this home. We are asking our members to give this ministry their prayerful consideration, and we are looking forward to having more volunteers this year. If you are not able to help physically, we can also use your financial support. If you have any questions, please contact Toby Cahill.

FAMILY SUMMARY

LINDA AND LADONTÉ

Linda Marbury was born and raised in Jefferson County. She graduated from Wenonah High School. She then continued her education at Jefferson State University receiving a degree in Early Childhood Development. She is employed by the JCCEO Head Start, where she has worked for 11 years. Linda attends Mount Olive Baptist Church in Wenonah. At Mount Olive, Linda teaches the beginners Sunday school class and also teaches the Pre-school class during Vacation Bible School each year. She was awarded the Faithful Service as a Sunday school Teacher Award by her church. In her spare time she enjoys going out to eat, singing and dancing.

Linda lives at home with her 16-year old son, LaDonté. He attends Parker High School and is in the 11th grade. LaDonté recently represented his school in the Math Derby and won an award in Algebra for High Achievement. He is also a member of the school’s Marching and Concert Bands.

“Thank you for providing a home for my son and me,” Linda says to her sponsor. “Owning my own home would provide a more positive living environment with a warm sense of establishment from being a homeowner.”
